How We Started
Founded in 1995 by Dr. Millicent Danker, Perception Management Sdn Bhd (PMSB) is a Malaysian boutique Digital Public Relations and Communications Consultancy based in Kuala Lumpur. Our team is dedicated to helping our clients manage their key perceptual assets: Reputation, Image, Identity, Positioning and Brand. These assets are intangible but undeniably valuable. We help our clients narrow the gap that exists between their company's ideal perception, and that held by their key stakeholders.
Specialising in stakeholder relations and strategic communications, we help clients achieve their business goals through winning solutions. With a proven track-record of over 20 years, we continue to support companies in many ways - through integrated communications strategies, corporate responsibility frameworks, content development, media crisis management, media relations, creative concept design and perception stakeholders audits. We help further the agenda of any client, institution or brand to manage reputational and perception issues through proactive, strategic communications and continuous engagement.
Beginning her career as a journalist with Malaysia’s New Straits Times Group, including a stint as editor of Malaysian Business magazine, Dr. Millicent Danker spent many years with PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national oil company, as Head of Communications and later as director for Corporate Services for Burson-Marsteller, and Public Affairs Advisor to the board of a leading Malaysian plc before she established her own practice in 1995.
As one of Asia’s leading public relations counsellors, she had been in active practice in the region for 35 years, offering her insights in the areas of corporate strategy, media, crisis and issues management, PR programme and policy development, corporate transparency and communication ethics, strategic messaging and leadership communications, communications training and workshop facilitation at Director level.
She served for two terms on the Board of the London-based International Public Relations Association (IPRA), having held the post of Malaysian chair for IPRA, and for a time was Vice President of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Malaysia. She was also a member of the UK’s Institute of Directors and an associate of Henley Business School / University of Reading, where she has completed her doctorate in business administration. Her research interests were in Corporate Transparency among Malaysian PLCs.
Millicent was a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) and the only Malaysian PR practitioner with Approved-Trainer status obtained from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, U.K. (CIPR). She acquired her B.A. Hons in English Literature from the University of Malaya, and an MA (Communications) from the U.S. under an East-West Centre grant and a PETRONAS scholarship.
She facilitated and led at least 300 workshops and group learning session, and presented at dozens of international conferences in Malaysia, the ASEAN region and Europe.
